92 points. Tim Atkin MW 2020 SA Report:

“Based on Syrah with the remaining 29% made up of Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and a soupçon of Viognier, this deservedly successful Swartland red has built up a worldwide following. Aromatic and supple, it has notes of ginger spice and sweet red berry fruit, a patina of toasty oak and supple tannin. Drinkable young but will develop further in bottle”

Congratulations to Boekenhoutskloof Chief Winemaker Gottfried Mocke who has been named ‘Winemaker of the Year’ in Tim AtkinMW’s 2020 South Africa report.
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” - Boekenhout being an indigenous Cape Beech tree. In 1993, the farm and homestead were purchased, restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established.
Gottfried joined Marc Kent’s team at Boekenhoutskloof in 2015 after more than 10 years refining his craft in Franschhoek. His approach is focused on revealing the true identity and character of the terroir of the Boekenhoutskloof vineyards.

Reyneke Chenin Blanc 2019

94 points. Tim Atkin MW 2020 SA Report:

« Part of a superb line up of white wines from Reyneke in 2019, this hails from two old-vine blocks planted in the mid-1970s. Textured, saline and perfumed, with notes of wild flowers and honey, a hint of old wood spice and a textured, salty finish. Effortlessly complex. 2020-25 »

Reyneke was the first organic winery in South Africa to receive a 5-star Platter's Wine Guide and Johan Reyneke is Wine Grower of the Year in Tim Atkin's 2020 SA Report.

This week we will highlight the work of one of our talented South African Producers, Johan Reyneke.
Nature and Time
Johan Reyneke took over the family farm in the late 1990s with great aspirations to establish a chemical-free Farm. To him there is more in life than science, there is a spiritual element: It's by respecting the “inherent value of things” that he has made great progress in taking his lands back to a natural balance. Not only it is better for the earth, but it makes for better wine.
Reyneke wines are the expression of this place where humans are part of the natural order rather than being superior to it. It's simply all about grapes and time.
Reyneke was the first organic winery in South Africa to receive a 5-star Platter's Wine Guide and Johan Reyneke is Wine Grower of the Year in Tim Atkin's 2020 SA Report.

In 1990, the Multi-Vintage (MV) cuvée became the perfect emblem of Henri Giraud’s commitment to nature, traditional craftsmanship as well as ground-breaking winemaking techniques.
The House was at the vanguard of the Champagne growers’ movement away from mass-production, back to smaller yields and a more authentic expression of terroir.
MV cuvées show Giraud’s ability to craft wines based on 🍇 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from their Ay vineyards, wines that give depth of flavour, minerality and “gourmandise”.
MV15 uses base wines from Giraud’s unique “perpetual reserve” which are blended with the exceptional 2015 harvest. Small oak barrels are used to vinify and mature the wines.
James Suckling, describes it as “edgy, lively Champagne” as “full-bodied and very layered with so much going-on” with aromas of “bread dough, dried apples and apricots” along with “crème brulée, pie crust and a zingy acidity. 97/100. 🥂#champagnehenrigiraud #energyinside #newgenwines #ukdistributor #experiencehenrigiraud👌

Domaine Thunevin-Calvet

In Maury, in the heart of Roussillon, lies Domaine Thunevin-Calvet, founded by Jean-Roger and Marie Calvet, local talented winemakers and Jean-Luc Thunevin owner of Château Valandraud, Saint-Émilion 1er Grand Cru Classé.

When Jean-Luc visited Maury in 2000 he was seduced by this beautiful terroir of black schists. With an initial investment and a lot of talent in winemaking, the first vintage was released in 2001, made from old vines of Grenache and Carignan in a garage in Maury.
Jean-Luc Thunevin is in fact known for having taken his ‘garage wines’ to international success in less then a decade and now inspiring other winemakers by acting as a consultant around Bordeaux.

Over the years, the domaine and the popularity of the wines grew. Now, the vineyard is 65 hectares and conducted in a sustainable way. The cellars have been recently renovated to be more spacious and environment-friendly.

The wines are consistently acclaimed by international critics and frequently scoring 90+ points.

Core range wines include Cuvée Constance, a fruity Grenache-led blend, L’Amourette, a Mourvèdre-led blend and Les Trois Maries, a superb low-yield wine with concentrated fruit flavours.

In the 16th century Pinot Noir was introduced to the region of Champagne from Burgundy. Today, Domaine Henri Giraud launches their tribute to the revolutionary Pinot Noir winemakers of Aÿ. Hommage au Pinot Noir, the new cuvée from Henri Giraud puts the focus on the domaine’s strengths: Pinot Noir, Argonne Oak and the south-facing chalk vineyards of Aÿ.

Hommage au Pinot Noir is a rich, opulent Blanc de Noirs that has been 5 years in the making – employing the historic craft of “mise retardée” to give the Argonne Oak time to marry with this beautiful Blanc de Noirs. After bottling the wine rests on the lees for a full years.
Henri Giraud was established in Aÿ in 1625. Grapes are grown on the chalky slopes of the Montagne de Reims where the House’s long-standing respect for the terroir and organic viticulture mean that their vineyards have zero residue of herbicide and pesticide. Base wines are vinified in Argonne Oak bringing unrivalled richness and depth of flavour. Reserve wines dating back to 1990s from Henri Giraud’s own version of the solera, their unique “perpetual reserve”, are used to add dimensions unreached by other Domaines. #champagnehenrigiraud👌 #ultimatepinotnoir #energyinside
